Study Plan

The training path of the PhD in Chemical Sciences is structured as follows:

1st Year

  • Expected courses (distinct from those taught in first and second-level degree courses) (10 CFU);
  • Participation in national and international conferences, seminars, doctoral schools in Italy or abroad, computer skills courses, and English language enhancement (10 CFU);
  • Individual research activity, possible periods abroad, or other activities chosen by the PhD student related to the chosen curriculum, to be presented in the report for advancement to the following years (40 CFU).

2nd Year

  • Expected courses (distinct from those taught in first and second-level degree courses) (10 CFU);
  • Participation in national and international conferences, seminars, doctoral schools in Italy or abroad, educational activities on research management and knowledge of European and international research systems (10 CFU);
  • Individual research activity, possible periods abroad, or other activities chosen by the PhD student related to the chosen curriculum, to be presented in the report for advancement to the following years (40 CFU).

3rd Year

  • Participation in national and international conferences, seminars, doctoral schools in Italy or abroad, and educational activities on the valorization and dissemination of results, intellectual property, and open access to research data and products (10 CFU);
  • Research activity, thesis tutoring, periods abroad, or other activities chosen by the PhD student related to the chosen curriculum, publication in national and/or international journals (30 CFU);
  • Thesis preparation (20 CFU).

Once the training path has been positively evaluated by the PhD Board, admission from the first year to the following years and the final examination will consist of the PhD student's discussion of the results obtained from their research and their dissemination. The evaluation will be carried out by a committee appointed by the Board of the PhD in Chemical Sciences.
